What can I do?
BUY CONSCIOUSLY
Make a plan for your purchases, budget wise and design wise. If you go shopping spontaneously at least try to return back home that day and give yourself one night’s sleep to think through what you actually need. If you buy something out of less quality, make sure this is a piece that you will wear and tear so that the less expensive production was really worth it.
USE
Most important of all – use those items that you’ve purchased.
REUSE
This is both regarding vintage and not to be forgotten – your own vintage. Use what you have, what’s already there in your wardrobe.
REMAKE
If you’re a little sewing skilled it’s quite simple to give your old clothes a new touch. Maybe there’s a cut on your jeans legs that needs an update, or a blouse that would go better with short sleeves than the long original ones. Only your imagination is the limit!
DONATE TO VINTAGE SHOPS, OR TO FRIENDS
When the pieces have become far too small size wise and your imagination and sewing skills has reached its challenging end, donate your clothes to others that may appreciate them or that are able to give them a remake.
RECYCLE
When there is no option left – recycle your clothes. The large retail chains, even some interior ones, collect old fabrics. They reuse zippers and buttons. Fabrics that are not possible to do any remake from become cloths or other useful things for the industry, made from the recycled fibres – not to underestimate!
